Electromagnetic Fields (EMF)
Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are produced by the presence and movement of electrical energy. Electrical transmission lines are a source of EMF, but so are all devices that use electricity including television sets, computers and cell phones.
Some people who live near the transmission line route have expressed concern about the potential impact EMF may have on their health and the health of their families, pets and livestock. MATL places the highest priority on health and safety. The company has compiled extensive research on the effect of EMF on health and has hired prominent, independent experts in this field. The MATL line exceeds all national and international guidelines in regards to EMF.
In compliance to commitments made to the Alberta Energy & Utilities Board, MATL provides the following information related to EMF. This is representative of the range of information on this subject available in the public domain. MATL does not endorse or necessarily agree with the points of view expressed in all of the websites linked to herein, but provides this information unfiltered as a service to stakeholders in the MATL project.
